Don't let Todd Snider fool you

As it turns out, Todd Snider has everyone fooled. 

The Nashville singer-songwriter who wears his hippie stoner persona proudly is actually a workaholic who released two albums in the first four months of the year. “Agnostic Hymns & Stoner Fables” is a scathing indictment of the current state of the union, while “Time as We Know It,” is a loving tribute to Jerry Jeff Walker, the man who changed the course of Snider’s life.

Monday morning notebook

Mindy Smith's new album arrives in stores Tuesday.

Dar Williams invited more than 200 folks over Saturday night for a spirited evening of songs and stories.

In lieu of hosting at her house, which is in New York, Williams  turned the Redmoor in Mount Lookout into a suitable stand-in as she played eight of the 10 tunes from “In the Time of Gods,” and six others with the help of keyboard player Bryn Roberts and guitarist Josh Kaler. 

The music was certainly the centerpiece, but it was some unexpected moments that lent the night its homey feel.

Dar Williams’ range of interests is wide enough that the idea of an album loosely based on Greek mythology should not be surprising.

However, complete knowledge of the classics isn’t required to enjoy the 10 new songs on “In the Time of the Gods” says the songwriter, who plays the Redmoor Saturday night.

It’s less than a month before the Bunbury Festival kicks off July 13 for its three-day run on the riverfront in downtown Cincinnati.

Creator Bill Donabedian, one of the co-founders of the MidPoint Music Festival years ago, has no intention of starting small, then trying to build for the future. There are more than 100 acts scheduled on the event’s six stages (see Set Times under the Music & More button on the website to plan your viewing schedule).
