Midpoint Music Festival Makes First Round of Artist Announcements
The good folks who put on Cincinnati's annual Midpoint Music Festival have released the first round of artists playing this year's festival. The event takes place September 27 - 29 in downtown Cincinnati.
A couple of WNKU Top 89 alums show up in the list. Best Coast cracked the Top 89 (as voted on by listeners) in 2010 with their debut, Crazy For You. Grizzly Bear did the same in 2009 with Veckatimist. A month later, the track, "Two Weeks", went mainstream when it appeared in a Super Bowl ad for Volkswagon. Grizzly Bear's much-anticipated follow up album is due out just before MPMF 2012.
Other impressive names in today's announcement include
- forefathers of indie rock, Dinosaur, Jr.
- neo-new-wavers, Dirty Projectors
- critical darlings of noise pop and recent Saturday Night Live musical act, Sleigh Bells
- and a new favorite of David Dye's on the World Cafe, J.C. Brooks & the Uptown Sound (check out their cover of Wilco's, "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" below).
You can find the complete announcement at www.mpmf.com. We'll keep you posted as more bands are announced, and will most certainly have some festival passes to give away later in the summer, so stay tuned!
