"White-Nose Syndrome" Threatens Area Bats

" Highland Heights, Ky." – If you planned a holiday weekend of spelunking, you may be a little disappointed this morning. Several caves across the Eastern U.S. have been closed to protect bats! White nose syndrome is a fungal disease that attacks bats' mucous membranes and can disrupt their hibernation patterns. NKU senior Elizabeth Shelley and a team of biologists have developed a protocol to protect against the spread of the disease. Shelley explained how the disease migrates to WNKU's Matt Kelley .

Cincinnati Fire Chief Robert Wright is set to retire

Cincinnati,OH – Cincinnati's Fire chief has announced he will retire at the beginning of next year. 59 year old Robert Wright has been with the fire department for 36 years, the last 12 as its chief.

Wright says the city is close to 80 square miles in size. His fire Department employs 841 firefighters and 34 civilians. The Chief is responsible for 26 fire stations and a training center. With a budget once as high as 78 million dollars, it's like managing a small corporation.
